The aim of the guide is to promote the necessary basis to identify, prioritize and assess health technologies in use, whose clinical benefit, safety or cost-effectiveness has been significantly surpassed by other available alternatives.
The guide consists of three different sections. The first section sets out five potential sources of information for the detection of potentially outdated technologies, classified into active and proactive. In the second chapter prioritization tool developed by avalia-t (PriTec tool) to identify potentially obsolete health technologies that most impact healthcare. The final section proposes a pilot structure for the assessment documents potentially outdated technologies, with sections focusing on the comparison of obsolete technology with alternative technologies.
