Description of Project objectives H2050

The final result of this Project is the physical-scale demonstration of the facilities of the future hospital. This demonstration will be physically carried out in new areas of the Hospital complex of Ourense, belonging to the Galician health Service. Also, hand out several deliverables describing the innovation projects will. The conception of design will always take into account a new patient-centered functional model, based on an open and participative healthcare approach.

The H2050 will make it easier to implement this model and will provide innovative technological resources so that services, and healthcare professionals and natural resources actions can be managed more efficiently and safely.

El H2050 will be environmentally friendly, by using clean sources of energy to develop the new model of self-sustainable Hospital. Furthermore, the new area of the experimental hospital will follow the best and most innovative practices of bioclimatic architecture to become itself a low-energy consumption building that fully exploits natural resources.

  • The hospital of the future must be a safe hospital. Among 4% and 17% of patients entering a hospital have suffered some kind of accident or unexpected problem derived from healthcare assistance and not from their disease itself; this fact will have an influence in their health and recovering possibilities. Patient`s safety, key point of the healthcare quality, has become very relevant over the last years for the patients and their families, who desire to feel safe and confident with the healthcares received, and for managers and professionals, who want to offer a safe, effective and efficient assistance.
  • The hospital of the future has to be a green hospital, which includes programs of efficient usage of water and energy, integral management of solid and liquid waste as well as a proper management of chemical substances among others, apart from the fulfillment of the current environmental and health regulation. It must become a reference in the implementation of cleaner production strategies by means of improving environmental performance of healthcare services, leading to immediate economic and environmental benefits.
  • The hospital of the future has to be a sustainable and efficient hospital. It has to be integrated into the environment in which it is located, which feeds and supplies it, always taking into account these relationships as if they were its ecosystem. Benefits of this sustainable approach will influence several fields: reduction of environmental and occupational risks, environmental education, health and safety, quality in patient`s care, costs reduction, energy consumption reduction, logistics and productivity improvement.
  • Finally, the hospital of the future has to be an open hospital to the rational use and evaluator of new technologies. It has to be a meeting point, an innovation space where all actors converge around users. Hospitals will be the entrance door and the place where many healthcare and non-healthcare technologies are consolidated, assuming the fundamental responsibility of their incorporation into the National Health System.
